Mackay congratulates the Recruits
Teenagers from across Renfrewshire have been taking part in an Apprentice-style competition over the summer holidays in the hopes of being named The Recruit 2011. The project was run by Renfrewshire Council and aimed to give young people some practical experience and advice on starting a career in business, with the winner being offered a full time job at the end.
The winners were announced on Thursday night at a black tie event in Paisley Town Hall.
Commenting Mr Mackay said:
“The Recruit' is part of the council's on-going commitment to supporting young people get into employment. Everyone who took part showed fantastic initiative, commitment and enthusiasm. They stepped up to every challenge thrown at them and at no point did anyone say there was something they could not do.
“During their challenges, they visited the Scottish Parliament, where I met them and gave them a presentation on leadership qualities followed by a tour of the Parliament itself.
“We’ve seen them all grow in confidence and watched them develop skills some of which they may not have even known that they had. They should all be incredibly proud of themselves.
“I’ve no doubt that every one of them has a bright future ahead and this is very promising for Renfrewshire as a whole. I hope this year’s Recruit contestants have inspired other young people to take part in this innovative project in the future.”
