Local SNP MSP Derek Mackay recently visited ConstructionSkills and National Construction College at Inchinnan where he was given a tour and shown the facilities that are on offer.   The National Construction College is a state-of-the-art training centre including a 1,200 square metre scaffolding facility, which is the second largest purpose built scaffolding training centre in the UK.

Director, Mr Graeme Ogilvy said:

“We were delighted to welcome Derek MacKay MSP to the ConstructionSkills Scotland Headquarters and the National Construction College Scotland for a visit.  It was a pleasure to show him around our facilities, including the second largest purpose built scaffolding centre in the UK.

“We also discussed Scottish Apprenticeship Week which gets underway on 6th – 8th September. This important initiative will provide young people considering a career in the industry with some hands-on experience and a chance to meet with prospective employers. I had an engaging discussion with Derek about this work and I look forward to updating his parliamentary colleagues soon.”

Commenting, Mr Mackay said:

“This company understands that apprenticeships are the lifeblood of the construction industry, as well as playing an integral role in Scotland’s economy, and work hard  to encourage more young people to join them.

“This comes at a time when the Scottish Government has funded a record high 25,000 modern apprenticeships in order to support our young people in tough economic conditions.

“Scotland has a higher employment rate and lower inactivity rate than the UK as a whole, a testament to the Scottish Government's strong stance supporting jobs, skills and training.

“These facilities, and indeed the wider work of ConstructionSkills, is vital in establishing a competitive skills base in Scotland and ensuring the nation’s future prosperity. “
