Mackay and Adam donate salary to Renfrewshire Girlguiding Base
The MSPs donated £1,500 in a bid to complete a window renewal project at the local girlguiding site.
Girlguiding Renfrewshire has the second largest in membership in Scotland, with the county stretching from Hillington & Cardonald in the East to Skelmorlie in the West.
South Newton is the Girlguiding Renfrewshire training base and camping site, also used by many other organisations. Girlguiding Renfrewshire matched the funding provided by the SNP MSPs to allow for an upgrade to the premises.
Local SNP MSPs Derek Mackay and George Adam handed over the cheque during a visit to the South Newton centre.
Commenting on the visit, Mr Mackay said:
“On being elected as MSPs George and I made clear we would be donating to good causes in the local area. Girlguiding is one such good cause, and the funds will make a practical difference to the facility they use.
“Both the Girl Guides and Scout movements play a very important part in the development of young people’s lives, and for this reason we are always happy to support them.
“The facilities that South Newton offer guiding units is invaluable; helping to build new skills, get a sense of community, and develop an appreciation for nature. I hear that everyone who goes has an enormous amount of fun and I am delighted that our contribution will help with their work.”
Mr Adam added,
“I would like to pay tribute to the work done by both the Brownies and Scouts. In my younger years, I was in the Cubs and thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
“The council salary which we draw in our outgoing period is being used for good causes, and here to help out the Brownies in a very tangible way.
“The combined payment by myself and Derek only goes to highlight the work that can be done when there are two local SNP MSP’s fighting to help the constituents of Paisley and Renfrewshire North and West”.
