MACKAY WELCOMES BIG LOTTERY FUND AWARD
Local MSP, Derek Mackay, has welcomed the Big Lottery Fund announcement that Cherrie Youth Football Club in the Renfrewshire North and West constituency has received an award of £1,958
The award will provide opportunities for young children to become engaged in team sports by starting up a new soccer school for younger players aged 5-6. This grant of £1958 will fund 24 bibs, 30 hours of school pitch let, four goals, 24 footballs, two ball bags and 24 training strips.
Congratulating the group, Mr Mackay said:
“The recent announcement of this award from the Big Lottery Fund is fantastic news, and I would like to congratulate the group on securing this much sought after funding, which I know will go a long way to helping benefit the youth in the community.
“With the Commonwealth Games coming to Scotland in 2014 this type of award stimulates grass root involvement with sport and physical activity and provides an excellent opportunity to get involved.
“It’s great to see so many groups coming forward with the aim of making a big difference to their local communities and I would encourage other groups who think that they fit the criteria to apply also.”
