Mackay highlights work of PSALV
Local SNP MSP Derek Mackay recently spoke to the Psoriasis Scotland stand at the Scottish Parliament, during an exhibit to mark the first anniversary of the introduction across Scotland of SIGN Clinical Guidelines, directed at the diagnosis and treatment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis.
Psoriasis is a common skin disorder affecting 2% of the population and occurs equally in men and women, at any age. The condition is not infectious nor does it scar the skin but it can be itchy and as it can attack the joints as well, can be extremely painful and uncomfortable.
PSALV, Psoriasis Scotland, is the only Scottish charity for people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and the aim of the exhibit was to raise awareness of the painful conditions caused and highlight World Psoriasis Day which was on the 29th October.
Commenting Mr Mackay said;
“Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis causes pain and misery for over a hundred thousand people in Scotland and it is important to raise awareness of this disease to try and help ease the suffering of the people affected.
“Thanks to an SNP Government and to the abolishment of prescription charges, more and more people have access to treatments, which they otherwise might not have been able to afford, and I would encourage anyone who think they might be suffering from the condition to see their local GP.
