Local MSP, Derek Mackay (SNP – Renfrewshire North and West) has welcomed the decision to change the speed limit on the B790 Houston Road between Bridge of Weir and Houston to 40mph.  The current limit on this stretch of road is 60mph.

Originally the council was looking to reduce the limit to 30mph but after consultation with the police it was agreed to have a limit of 40 mph instead.
Mr Mackay commented:

“Road safety is an important issue and the decision to reduce the speed limit on this stretch of the B790 Houston Road reflects this.

“Consultation with the police enabled us to decide on the most appropriate speed limit, and to lower this to 40mph on this stretch of road.

“A recent report to the council indicated a 21% drop in road casualties across council roads in Renfrewshire last year.  The move to reduce this speed limit will hopefully help continue this trend”.
