It's Time to Recruit
Teenagers from across Renfrewshire are being asked to take part in an Apprentice-style competition over the summer holidays in the hopes of being named The Recruit 2012. The project is run by Renfrewshire Council and aims to give young people some practical experience and advice on starting a career in business, with the winner being offered a full time job at the end.
In urging local companies to help out the local MSP has boosted his local constituency team by employing a 'recruit' from part of last years team.
Derek has employed recruit team member Arran Dulai to work in his constituency office in Renfrew. Arran, who lives in Inchinnan will be given the opportunity work alongside Derek on local and parliamentary matters.
Commenting Mr Mackay said;
"I am delighted to appoint Arran to my team. He is a skilled and dedicated young man, who will be an asset to my constituency office. It is a credit to the recruit programme, run by Renfrewshire Council in partnership with key local organisations and companies, that they are producing such talented individuals.
"I would want to take this opportunity to re-inforce the positive impact that giving young people a chance is having during these tough financial times. I fully commend the efforts that are being made to support youth employment and maximise every opportunity that exists.
"The public and private sectors must work together like never before to ensure that there is no 'lost generation' and that young people are given a chance.
"I am delighted to be playing a role in the Scottish government to secure new resources for youth employment, working alongside minister Angela Constance. By employment a local young person I have been able to do my bit locally.
"I would encourage other local employers to consider taking on apprentices and supported places through the range of schemes that now exist. If we all pull together we can make a real dent in youth unemployment. I know there is a real will in the business world to do this."
New Constituency Assistant Arran Dulai said;
"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to work for my local MSP Derek Mackay. I hope to learn from the team and take the excellent opportunity that I have been given. The recruit programme was excellent and I learned so much. I hope that many more young can the chance I have to make their way in the world."
